Deerkill is located in Suffern, NY.  It stresses the growth of true individuality—an emphasis on each child’s special abilities and gifts, his or her personal contribution to the rich and varied cooperative life of the whole group.

Girls and boys are happy at Deerkill because they respond to the sincerity and affection which surrounds them. They are well behaved because we care, and they know that while their desires are respected, they also need to consider what's important for the whole group. They learn rapidly and easily at camp because we have expert leadership and provide happy challenges.

Each individual group of 18 to 20 campers is lead by a teacher (or college graduate attending professional school). This group leader is always supported by a college man or women; in the younger groups there are additional assistants. We hire group counselors who are mature, like children, and know how to coach team sports at levels appropriate for their age groups.

Specialty activities are led by professionals. Campers spend over half of their time with specialists in swimming, karate, nature, tennis, and gymnastics. Creative arts taught by specialists include theatre and dance. We also offer a diverse computer program, digital photography, woodworking, ceramics, and arts & crafts.

Each of our specialists has an assistant counselor. They in turn are supported by our group counselors. Each of our specialty programs is conducted in a large and well equipped building, with the exception of tennis, archery, and our ropes course which are outdoors.

We have great morale and a staff that really enjoys working with children.
