Description

One Week of Summer Camp ages K - 12

Program Objective

Through classroom, workshop, and summer camp activities, this program provides teachers and students a unique opportunity to gain knowledge in the field of architecture, related arts, and the ongoing contributions made by Wright to the built environment through study and projects in a variety of curriculum areas.

The program provides students with an alternative learning opportunity, to develop attitudes and competencies necessary for life long problem – solving such as defining and analyzing problems, generating fresh ideas, developing possible solutions, evaluating various solutions, and working out plans for implementation of the preferable solution.

The program also provides teachers and students an opportunity to apply higher-level thinking skills and creative problem solving to interdisciplinary classroom projects.  This program has expanded to include a “teach the teachers” program and in 2007 began a collaboration with The Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth.

Program Highlights

  1. The objective of the Education Outreach Program (EOP) is to provide opportunities for people throughout the world to learn about the rich legacy of the most widely recognized American architect.

  2. The program stimulates a learning environment in which students will be challenged by the full spectrum of learning styles.

  3. The combination of theory and philosophy with hands-on manipulation of materials during "Designing Your Dream Space," a highly individual design and model building program, develops creative expression and problem solving in a multifaceted project adaptable for grades 4-12.

Future Program Objective

  1. It is the goal of this program, to extend the summer camp program to the Foundation’s Taliesin campus in Spring Green, Wisconsin.

  2. The program will continue to bring awareness of architecture and the arts to young people while promoting the Foundation and its educational mission
