Summer Camp

Kampalooza 2009

Registration begins March 23!

Our camp philosophy is simple.

Academic Rigor

In order to cultivate an actors true potential, we believe that their ability must be trained and given the opportunity to grow.  Our summer camp program is designed to provide comprehensive performance training, while gaining an appreciation for the art form.

Quality

Our programs offer the highest quality experience possible for your child.  Our instructors are highly trained professionals who have extensive experience acting, directing, performing and working with youth.

Published Plays and Devising

In addition to providing an opportunity for students to perform in a published play, we honor and embrace the natural creativity in every child. Our younger participants will use their ideas to produce an original production of their own creation.  This process is a natural way to boost confidence, inspire creativity and create community.

Variety

Variety is the spice of life! In addition to rehearsing and preparing for their main performance the PT camp experience provides focused training in Voice, Movement, Mask making, Slapstick Comedy and much, much more. Afternoons are reserved for rehearsals in preparation for their main performance.

Stage Breakdown

We've restructured our age ranges for each stage.  Kampalooza 2009 will feature he following stages:

Stage 1- (4-6 years)

Stage 2- (7-9 years)

Stage 3- (10-12 years)

Stage 4- (13-18 years)

Adventure Stage- (10-17)

June Adventure Stage

In partnership with SARRC (Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center), Phoenix Theatre is creating a unique theatre camp experience for autistic children in the Valley. This is a project focused on providing a summer opportunity for children with autism to explore theatre concepts and techniques while immersed in a pre-existing summer camp at Phoenix Theatre (Kampalooza).  Led by professional teaching artists and supported by trained SARRC facilitators, participants in this Adventure Stage will learn a song, learn a dance, and participate in many other theatrical exercises with other campers.

The goals of the Adventure Stage are to:

            1. Improve language and interaction;

            2. Engage each child physically;

            3. Increase eye contact, engagement, and span of attention.
