Each Camp Invention program contains five modules that have been carefully tested and piloted for several years before they are nationally launched.  The curricula for all modules are aligned with national and state education standards.  By popular demand, all Camp Invention programs feature two program favorites that have been completely reinvented - the renowned I Can Invent: Fantasy Inventions & Complicated Machines IITM and Recess RemixTM modules.  National programs currently being offered are:

The DISCOVER Program

The DISCOVER Program

Viking Treasure Trek: The Quest Begins™

Children spend the week treasure hunting as they follow the footsteps of ancient travelers in the Viking Treasure Trek: The Quest Begins module.  Children hear a mythical story of how the travelers, known for their outstanding seamanship, mysteriously hid vast amounts of gold, and it’s up to them to find the buried bounty!  With the aid of compasses, children work together in teams to decipher clues that will help put the gold within their grasp.  Children must build sturdy boats that are able to survive the fury of the Atlantic Ocean to successfully navigate their way through the Norweigan Islands toward the buried treasure!  Will the lost gold be uncovered?

Comic Book Science: FlyJack and Jill™

In the
Comic Book Science: FlyJack and Jill module, children discover that a major comic book publisher’s sales are slumping, and it’s up to them to save the company by developing a new superhero comic book series that features superheroes with science-based super powers!  Throughout the week, children perform experiments that explore scientific superhero powers such as the five senses, the ability to change or “morph,” flight, speed, strength, and reaction time.  Children then incorporate their findings into their own comic books by giving their superheroes similar scientific super powers!  It’s an allout superhero extravaganza when children bring their power-packed characters to life and craft them into real models!

Land Sled X-Treme

The Land Sled X-Treme module is an exciting fusion of racing and engineering.  Children work in teams to complete daily challenges such as designing shields to keep from getting wet in the H2O Throw game.  By winning challenges, children earn points to use to buy materials such as duct tape, boxes, and skateboards that they transform into one-of-a-kind land sleds!  At the end of the week, teams participate in the highly anticipated X-treme obstacle course to discover whose land sleds can cross the finish line victoriously.  They swerve around cones and dodge water balloons to win the title of X-treme Land Sled Racer.

I Can Invent: Fantasy Inventions & Complicated Machines II™

The I Can Invent: Fantasy Inventions & Complicated Machines II module illustrates the joys (and frustrations) that real inventors face during the process of creating totally new inventions. Creative problem solving is fostered as children imagine and assemble the unthinkable!  Younger children create fantasy inventions using pieces and parts of broken appliances and other recyclable materials.  They further explore the process of invention as they market their inventions and apply for (and even receive) mock patents.  Older children work in teams to build complicated, multi-step machines that solve a challenge.  A participant favorite, children of all ages find this module incredibly challenging and exciting!

Recess Remix™

Twist it, turn it, shake it, and reverse it!  This summer, children mix up and fast forward traditional playground games to concoct unique recreational experiences that will have them rolling on the floor laughing!  In the Recess Remix module, children are challenged to use nontraditional equipment (such as water balloons) to play classic games.  Each day features fresh ideas that will have children mentally and physically engaged and completely entertained.  The laughter is contagious as children use fun ways to enhance their level of cooperation and coordination in these innovative, team-building exercises.  Children's minds are put to the test as they combine physical activity and creativity to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary!

The CREATE Program

The CREATE Program

Problem Solving on Planet ZAK®

In the Problem Solving on Planet ZAK module, children are immersed in the wondrous world of science fiction as they use their creative and critical-thinking skills to stay safe and nourished after crash-landing on a strange planet.  They first use teamwork to “reassemble” their crashed spacecraft from a variety of common objects.  Then children must cope with the wild weather on Planet ZAK by using important data that will help them design shelters and spacesuits able to withstand the planet’s harsh conditions and acid rain!  Children also use a dynamic problem-solving process to reach a hard-to-find food source and launch their reconstructed spacecraft in time for the blastoff countdown!

Saving Sludge City™

The adults and businesses in Sludge City have polluted their town to the point of ruin, and it’s up to the Camp Invention Team to rebuild a cleaner, more eco-friendly city for its residents!  Children are introduced to ecology and the concept of conservation as they investigate, experiment, and demonstrate the actions that caused the city to become so terribly polluted and determine effective methods to clean it up.  Children explore green city design, make water filtration systems to clean up mock toxic water pollution, build landfills that protect the Earth from contamination, ensure safe waste disposal, and invent new methods of transportation that operate solely on renewable, pollution-free power sources.

Imagination Point: Ride Physics™

In the Imagination Point: Ride Physics module, children work as interns for the world’s newest and largest amusement park, Imagination Point.  They are introduced to the basic principles of motion through hands-on activities related to amusement park rides.  Children use their imaginations to create prototypes of roller coasters and other rides.  Before construction begins, they investigate the science behind these thrill rides by exploring Sir Isaac Newton’s Three Laws of Motion.  They perform a magician’s trick to understand inertia, discover that mass matters when two objects collide, learn the thrill of centripetal force, and create bumper-car paintings to illustrate that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction!

The EXPLORE Program

The EXPLORE Program

Wild Blue Y’Under

In the Wild Blue Y’Under module, children have the chance to awaken their spirits of adventure and exploration!  Children fly high, dive deep, and travel the globe, exploring physics concepts such as buoyancy, lift, density, friction, propulsion, and water pressure to complete a secret mission.  By the end of the week, children must deliver top-secret documents to the National Inventors Hall of Fame and keep these important papers safe from spies who want to swipe them!  From Egypt to Akron, Ohio, children must build boats, hovercrafts, gliders, road vehicles, and futuristic methods of travel that will safely carry these documents to the waiting workers in Akron!

Tape Me to Your Leader™

Could there be other inventors in our galaxy?  In the Tape Me to Your Leader module, that's a mystery children explore in this creative problem-solving adventure.  Curiosities are piqued when radio signals reach Camp Invention headquarters, and children tune in to make contact with the aliens.  To do so, they construct a three-dimensional command structure with tape and recycled cardboard, learning about structural principles in the process.  From the center itself, to a radio telescope and tower, to space suits to wear while meeting with the aliens, children are kept busy preparing for their alien encounter!

Solve It: The Missing Inventor's Log™

In the Solve It: The Missing Inventor’s Log module, Dr. June Clever’s Inventor’s Log is missing, and it is up to the children of the Camp Invention program to discover who has taken it!  Children spend the week acing as crime scene investigators, conducting experiments and using forensic science and deductive reasoning to find the guilty culprit.  Children begin the week by creating character sketches of possible suspects and building model rooms that depict Dr. Clever’s house.  Children
then scientifically assess the crime scene as they collect and examine evidence such as fingerprints, footprints, teeth impressions, and ink to pinpoint a suspect!
