Mrs. Robles loves teaching. She began teaching as a peer tutor in elementary school! Her volunteer teaching continued through high school as a day camp counselor, math tutor, and after school program coach. While attending Humboldt State University, Mrs. Robles directed a Youth Educational Services program called Environmental Education. It was then
that she realized how much fun it was to share what she had learned about science with K-8th grade students.
After graduating from HSU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Management and a minor in Natural Resources Interpretation, Mrs. Robles joined the United States Peace Corps. Her two year assignment in Honduras
was to work with a Honduran governmental agency to develop a national park and to raise public awareness on the conservation of natural resources. In actuality, Mrs. Robles learned as much, if not more, from the Honduran people than she taught. Upon returning to the United States, Mrs. Robles decided to try teaching in the classroom. She worked as a substitute for
one year after which, she began teaching full time at Sunland Elementary School. She taught at Sunland Elementary for ten years before coming to Millikan.
Mrs. Robles loves to teach, but she also loves to learn. She earned her multiple subject credential from the Los Angeles Unified District Internship Program. She then earned a Master of Arts degree in Teaching English To Speakers of Other Languages from California State University, Los Angeles.
Finally, she earned a single subject credential in art (visual) and
still enjoys taking painting and three dimensional art classes.
Mrs. Robles also loves to learn by traveling. She has been to Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, Costa Rica, Honduras, Dominican Republic, and Uganda (Africa). She has also visited some of the continental United States such as Minnesota, Colorado, Oregon, Arizona, and Wyoming to name a few. This summer she went to the Dominican Republic and San Luis Obispo (check out the Pictures icon on the homepage). She also went to El Paso (to visit the in-laws), Kings Canyon National Park, and California's North Coast/Redwoods National Park. If you have any travel tips she'd love to hear them!
