Description

A cozy, reading corner for readers of all sizes! The students first refurbished a recycled wooden bookcase by painting it with their favorite colors. They created a decoupage trompe l’oeil on the shelves of their favorite book titles by using various graphics arts skills they have learned in computer class. Attached to the outside of the bookcase are 26 decoupage CD “tiles” illustrating each student’s reading pick—either a favorite book or a representation of their favorite genre. These “tiles” may be removed and displayed artistically on a wall. The students recovered a binder with their handmade patterned paste papers. This binder is a treasure - full of student writings about reading plus photos of each student reading and a description about and photos of the children working on this project. This bid packet also includes two comfortable beanbag chairs decorated with classic reading quotes and well- known children’s books illustrations. On the shelves of the bookcase are an assortment of donated family “favorites” books, bookmarks, bookplates, a class -autographed bookend, two portable reading lights, and even a secret compartment “treasure” book. Imagine snuggled into this corner, completely immersed in the most fulfilling pastime of all—reading for pleasure! This is a wonderful, heirloom-quality asset for any home or child-friendly office.
