Description
Authentic ballet shoes worn and autographed by Ballerina Wendy Whelan of the New York City Ballet. In addition to the shoes, the New York City Ballet offers an invitation to be a guest at a working NYC Ballet rehearsal at Lincoln Center, an 8x10 glossy photo of Wendy Whelan, and her bio.
Wendy officially joined NYCB in 1984 as an apprentice and she joined the company's corps de ballet January 1986. She was further promoted to soloist in 1989, and to principal dancer in 1991.
Whelan is particularly known for her angular body and muscularity, particularly suited to the Balanchine style that strongly influences NYCB. The New York City Ballet, one of the foremost dance companies in the world, is unique in U.S. artistic history. Solely responsible for training its own artists and creating its own works, the New York City Ballet was the first ballet institution in the world with two permanent homes, the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center and the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, New York.
