A former fishing village, Tamarindo is located in the Guanacaste province on the North Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. Tamarindo is well developed, with much of the local economy tailored to the needs of tourists.
The town has a reputation for being relaxed and laid back and the beaches are considered to be first-rate. Windsurfing, surfing, swimming, snorkeling, sailing, kayaking, jet skiing, boogie boarding, horseback riding and scuba diving are popular pastimes here, or you can visit the nearby wildlife refuge of Diria or observe the leatherback turtles at the Marino Las Baulas National Park.
