Item Number: 2500
Time Left: CLOSED
Description
This is an opportunity for 2-4 people to get up close and personal with United's airliners during an "unofficial tour" of the Maintenance Base at SFO. The planes will be in various states of disassembly as you inspect the exterior, interior and of course, the cockpit. The availability of planes changes from day to day, but possibilities include the Boeing 777, 747, 767,757, 737 & the Airbus A320.
Winner will have the opportunity to learn:
1. How planes are maintained;
2. How the company responds to an inflight emergency;
3. A little on the new B-787 and A380 airliners; and
4. Any aviation-related topic you choose!
During your tour you may tour the turbine shop where jet engines are refurbished or see an engine in the test stand. The tour will be given by Randy Abraham, a Flight Test Captain for United.
Flight Test conducts flights to verify all systems, normal and emergency, operate correctly during factory acceptance and after aircraft overhaul. Flight Test also provides a troubleshooting capability for peculiar or difficult aircraft problems.
Randy was previously an F-16 test pilot at Edwards AFB and an instructor at the USAF Test Pilot School.
If the timing of the tour permits, expect to be treated to lunch at Araujo's Mexican Restaurant, United Flight Test's favorite lunchtime hang-out!
