Description

What could be better than this?! Learn and experience the excitement and the hard work of producing a LIVE concert in this three-day internship for a Menlo student and a friend/student of similar age. Your mentor, Menlo parent Tim Foster, a 40-year veteran of the entertainment industry and Production Manager for Neil Young, invites you and your friend to experience first-hand the logistical challenges of producing a two day rock & roll benefit with celebrated musicians.

Your roles as production/stage/tech interns for The Bridge School Benefit Concert 2009 will begin on a Friday morning in late October 2009 at 9:00 am. During the day you will assist with the "Load In" which includes unloading trucks, rigging and focusing lights, sound checks with the performing artists (which in past years have included Neil Young, Tom Petty, Paul McCartney, Jack Johnson, The Eagles, Norah Johns, Bruce Springsteen, Green Day, Metallica, David Bowie, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sara McLachlan, Dave Matthews, Bob Dylan, Pearl Jam, Elton John, Brian Wilson, Ben Harper, Foo Fighters, Brian Wilson, My Morning Jacket, The Who, Smashing Pumpkins, Willie Nelson, The Pretenders, Phish, Jerry Lee Lewis, Lucinda Williams, James Taylor, Simon and Garfunkel and Cat Power . . . just to mention a few), setting up recording tracks, programming sound boards, preparing for video and marking the stage for the numerous set changes. Your work on Friday will end about 6:00 pm. Be sure to get a good night's sleep.

On Saturday, your day begins again at 9:00 am and it will be a very busy day. Artists and their entourages begin arriving at 10:00 am. Dressing rooms must be assigned, schedules printed and distributed and meals served to approximately 175 people in preparation for the arrival of 25,000 audience members when doors open at 4:00 pm. Each evening you will assist approximately 10 performing artists/groups. The show will be demanding, very fast paced and a lot of fun.

On Sunday, your day which will be much like Saturday with new groups and logistical challenges beginning at 9:00 am. Doors open at 1:00 pm and the performance will end about midnight with about a one hour performance by host Neil Young. As soon as the show ends, everything must be broken down and "loaded out." This is a very quick, challenging and amazing experience to be part of, and usually ends around 1:30 am.

Each student/intern will be given a "CREW PASS" and, to the extent possible, will be assigned to tasks in accordance with his/her expressed interests. There will be regularly scheduled breaks and meals. Student Interns must be focused and professional. Parents and students will be required to sign a waiver of liability.
