About High Head:

Alan and Mary Bemis (rusticators from Boston) built High Head in 1937 at the height of the depression. Much of the town of Brooklin was employed to build the cottage from materials largely harvested on the property. Alan Bemis was a professor of meteorology at MIT, an aviator, sailor, and collector of DownEast stories. He commuted to Maine by seaplane which was housed in its hangar in the cove. As a storyteller he was a founding member of the Droll Yankee recording label who released the Bert & I records. Alan and Mary had five daughters, two of whom still own the property.
