Description
These three industrial landscapes are painted from photographs of the Westvaco pulp mill in Covington, Virginia. One of the largest such plants on the east coast, it has a stunning location at the bottom of a steep valley. The artist, Brandon Garrett, has shown his work in Brooklyn, NY, Bethesda, MD, New Haven, CT, and is currently showing paintings here in Charlottesville at the Mudhouse on the Downtown Mall (until March 2). Additional paintings of this pulp mill are on display in the "State Papers" show exhibited through July, 2009 at the University of Virginia Law Library.
Rich hues of blues and purple, deep greens and splashes of tangerine create this engaging three part series of the plumes and pulp mill at Covington. The paintings skillfully mesh urban imagery with nature.
With elegrant brush strokes of acrylic on canvas, the artist's vision and creative style presents a beautiful image of a world in the distance.
