Description
We are thrilled to bring you a special concert by the Vistamar String Ensemble in the remarkable home of Joanna Brody and Thomas Small. Featured in both the Los Angeles Times and the New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/16/garden/16culver.html?_r=1), the Brody-Small home was inspired by the work of Charles and Ray Eames and was constructed from a prefabricated steel shell with a custom interior. In building their home, Ms. Brody and Mr. Small brought their passion for ecology and the arts together. They wanted their house to be the greenest it could be with recycled denim insulation and sunflower board walls, abundant natural light, and a grey water system to irrigate the garden. They also wanted a quiet retreat that was acoustically resonant to accommodate Mr. Small’s love of chamber music. They have hosted salons and performances from world-renowned chamber music groups including toy pianist Phyllis Chen, and contemporary music composer Ben Johnston, who personally attended the concert in which The Denali Quartet played The Tavern and his String Quartet No. 4 “Amazing Grace.” Now they are opening their home for a traditional chamber music concert with a modern twist as Kate Tanguay and the Vistamar String Ensemble regale guests with some pop and classical tunes!
