Description

2001 Lail Vineyards:

Tasted on 1/15/2009 & rated 93 points: This is one of Napa Valley’s premier Cabernet Sauvignon-based blends. It’s made by Robin Lail, descendant of Gustav Niebaum, founder of the original Inglenook Estate in Rutherford. While that original property is now owned by Francis Ford Coppola and called Rubicon Estate, Robin continues her family’s winemaking tradition by making premium wines from grapes sourced from other Napa Valley vineyards. This wine, aged in French oak barrels for 20 months, features the classic aromatic and flavor profile of fine Napa Cab – black currant, vanilla, cedar and leather, with a shaving of eucalyptus. The 2001 is pure, complex and ready to drink, showing the mellow, caramelized flavors of age. This is a special wine in any vintage

2002 Chateau Montelena:

95 pts. Parker on 12/1/2006
The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is a remarkably rich but still backward red. It will benefit from 5–8 more years of cellaring, and should last for three decades. The full-bodied, intense, dense ruby/purple-colored 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate reveals a closed, reticent bouquet of minerals, crème de cassis, and spice. This rich, full-bodied effort should be going strong 20–30 years from now.

2003 Peter Michael Winery L'Esprit Des Pavots

The 2003 Les Pavots (61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Cabernet Franc, 13% Merlot, and 4% Petit Verdot) exhibits notes of melted licorice, tapenade, damp earth, black currants, and cedar. Slightly more herbaceous than the 2004, with notions of barbecued meat as well as blue and black fruits, this full-bodied, dense 2003 may not have quite the potential of the 2002 or 2001, but it is a brilliant effort to consume between 2008-2020." - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate # 162 (Dec 2005)
