"In my life as an artist, I have explored many media and themes, but for some time now I have been drawn irresistibly to the highly detailed, richly decorative, storytelling art of the Middle Ages. I am particularly fascinated by the icon and its power to evoke adoration and reverence, while at the same time I delight in the amazing patterns, textures, and styles of the Medieval costumes, and the women who wore them. Using historical information as inspiration, but not limitation, I combine the elements of both the sacred and the mundane, the fantastical and the realistic, to create my secular, sometimes pagan icons. In each I hope I am telling a story for the viewer about an imaginary woman of another era, (itself both real and imagined,) encased in the decorative and jewel-like window of the Medieval icon. "
