Description

Attend Center Stage's production of "Souvenir" with J. Wynn Rousuck, WYPR's theater critic, on Tuesday, May 5th.

A two-person fantasia on the "career" of real-life society diva Florence Foster Jenkins, renowned for her complete lack of musical skill—despite her firm conviction otherwise. Starring the phenomenal original Broadway cast of Judy Kaye and Donald Corren.

 J. Wynn Rousuck was a staff writer for the Baltimore Sun for 33 years and the Sun’s theater critic for 23 years. She is currently the theater critic for WYPR's "Maryland Morning with Sheilah Kast." She has been on the faculty of the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center’s Critics Institute in Waterford, CT, since 1990. In 1986, she was an on-air theater critic for Maryland Public Television.

She has also served on the faculty of the National Endowment for the Arts Journalism Institute in Theater at the University of Southern California and has taught writing at Goucher College and at Northwestern University’s National High School Institute.

In 1979-1980 she had a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship at the University of Michigan, where she studied the impact of business and law on the arts.

Before joining the Baltimore Sun, she worked for the Cleveland Press and for Cleveland’s fine arts radio station, WCLV.

Miss Rousuck is the recipient of numerous prizes including the Washington-Baltimore Newspaper Guild’s awards for criticism, commentary and the Bill Pryor Memorial Grand Prize for Writing. She has been honored by the Baltimore Shakespeare Festival, Center Stage, the Baltimore Playwrights Festival and the Audrey Herman Spotlighters Theatre.

She graduated from Wellesley College summa cum laude, with honors. She has a masters degree in journalism from Columbia University. She spent the 2007-2008 academic year as a visiting student at Brown University, studying with Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, Paula Vogel.
