Description












Antique engraving of "Nicolaus Copernicus" by Danish Neoclassical sculptor Bertel Thorwaldsen (1770-1844).  The figure of the astronomer shown seated, holding scientific instruments related to his discovery of the motion of celestial objects. Engraved by Pietro Aureli, Rome 1831.  Plate no. 95, from Intera Collezione di Tutte Opere dal Cav. Alberto Thorwaldsen, dedicate a Sue Eccellenza Rodolfo Conte di Lutzov.  Donated by Sue Adams and Stuart Taylor - Jade and Blue Rooms
