Founded by entrepreneur Kenneth King and interior designer Cary Mock, both fellow spa enthusiasts, dtox makes up 6,200 square-feet of unparalleled zen – and that’s no mistake. Mock worked around the space’s exposed brick masonry walls, 20-foot high vaulted ceilings, wood beams and concrete floors to create the ultimate spa experience. Aiming to incorporate elements of water, earth, fire and air, Mock set about envisioning an environment that had a feel of Asian minimalism mixed with Indonesian flare, keeping it all gender neutral to ensure every customer is comfortable. Bamboo paneling adorns the walls and sink tops – not just for their warm feel, but also their eco-friendly and renewable reputation – while low VOC paint was used to calm the senses. And while the lit candles in every massage room help create a relaxing glow, the piece de resistance lies in the center atrium, where a giant Buddha shares space with a 15-foot double waterfall as guests are welcomed to relax on chaise lounges, bathed in sunlight from the skylights above as they nosh on fresh fruit and organic teas.
