Local artist and RVSD Dad, Tim Horn lives in Fairfax with his wife and 2 young sons (one, a second grader @ Manor), teaches several plein air workshops every year, and paints all over the Bay Area and beyond. About half his work is done on location, or "plein air", and the rest is done in his studio from studies or photographs.
"Yellow Shutters" is an 11" x 14" oil on canvas in a black wood frame. The house is on Scenic Ave. in Fairfax and was painted on location in morning light.
Tim is an award winning painter, with four galleries representing his work in Carmel, Santa Fe and Naples, Florida. He is the winner of the prestigious Sonoma Plein Air 2007, two-time first place winner at Marin County Fair, has had two covers on Marin Magazine, and an article in the Marin IJ.
Born and raised in the small town of Yellow Springs, Ohio, Tim graduated from the Cooper Union School of Art in New York City in 1984, where his focus was primarily graphic design. After finishing school, he worked at several design firms in NYC before moving to San Francisco in 1992, where he continued to work as a designer.
Tim took his first painting class in 1998, followed by another in the fall of '99. and within a year was completely hooked. He began painting more and more, and doing less and less graphic deisgn. In the fall of 2006 he closed his design business and now paints full time. He participates in about 4 annual group shows, is represented by 3 galleries and does a handfull of commissions every year.
