Aikido of Champlain Valley is Vermont's premier Aikido center, located on Pine Street, directly across from Recycle North. The center is easy to get to and beautifully run.

About Aikido:

Aikido, the way (do) of blending with (ai) energy or spirit (ki) is a powerful and compassionate Japanese martial art. By using throws and immobilizing holds, an Aikido student redirects and neutralizes the force of the opponent's attack. Aikido's circular movements do not rely on strength, making it practical for women, men, and children of all sizes and abilities. Its graceful and flowing techniques provide a unique alternative to martial arts that rely on offensive strikes and kicks.

Introductory classes are oriented specifically towards new students. In these classes, students learn basic Aikido movements (tai sebaki), the art of falling (ukemi) and techniques (waza). Some find it intimidating to join a dojo; the introductory classes are designed to support people with little or no experience in Aikido or other martial arts. We also encourage students with prior Aikido training to take these classes in order to learn our basic techniques and methods of ukemi.

New students who train in the Introductory Classes often work with people with three or more years of Aikido training who already understand the basic footwork and movements.

If you cannot attend the Introductory Classes that meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, you are welcome to attend classes at other times. For the first month, you will work privately with senior students until you feel comfortable with basic Aikido skills.
