Description

This is a 18" x 26" limited edition giclee print signed by the artist.

The original is a collage made of thousands of tiny pieces of fabric, sometimes no larger than a quarter-inch across.  These fragments of woven color and texture are carefully arranged, layered, pinned and sewn together.   More and more, Ms. Serlin has been using “recycled” fabrics.  This can mean cutting up used clothing or using commercial fabric samples after those fabric lines have been discontinued.  In this way the material almost works as a timeline.

Here in Sacramento you can see more of Merle’s work in the Cal/EPA building and in City Hall.   You are also welcome to visit her in her studio on the second floor of “The Building”.  She hosts an Open Studio every Second Saturday.  Or visit www.axelradart.com.
