Description
Jim Williams, Chair of Williams + Paddon Architects + Planners and a Class VIII member, will host you and two friends (three total) for a round of golf and lunch at this private country club in Roseville.
Golf architect Jack Fleming designed the course. Fleming, who served as the right-hand man to famed golf course architect Alister Mackenzie, designed 18 courses in Northern California in the 1950s and 1960s. Some of his work are Sharon Heights Golf & Country Club, Golden Gate Park, Boulder Creek Golf & Country Club, Almaden Golf & Country Club and Dry Creek.
Not much has changed since Fleming's Poannua original work. The fairways are still predominately rye grass and the greens bent grass, which offer smooth, fast, challenging putts. The mature oak trees continue to age and constant planting of redwood, pine and eucalyptus trees throughout the years have put a premium on drives off the tee.
The signature hole is the par 3, 168-yard 17th hole, one which requires a shot over a lake, up a hill past a large trap guarding the green, and in between two mature oak trees. Though this hole is often photographed, other holes, such as the challenging par 4, 456-yard 3rd hole add to the beauty and validity of Sierra View CC as a championship course.
For the men, the course has a rating of 70.7 and a slope of 127 from the back tees (6,452 yards). For the women, the course has a rating of 77.2 and slope of 136 from the black tees.
