Description
2006 Tempranillo - "The Temp"
Kirschenmann Vineyard
Cosentino Winery
Tempranillo grapes originated in Spain and continue to be Spain's quintessential noble grape.
This tempranillo is an elegant red wine with perfume and spice in the nose, and flavors of chocolate cherries, plums and undertones of mineral notes, bay leaf and subtle mint and cedar. The finish is long and pleasant, with sophisticated soft tannins resonating on the palate. The 2006 took silver (no gold warded) in the San Francisco Chronicle's top 100 wine list for tempranillo.
2002 Syrah
Cosentino Winery
This syrah is a blend from Mandeville Island and two proven northern Lodi area vineyards, Kirschenmann and Knoll Vineyards in Lockeford. It was partially punch cap fermented and aged in a combination of oaks: French, American and European barrels for one year. The wine is unfined. The flavors are those of minerals, black fruit, red meat and spice in the nose. Big ripe deep fruit notes predominate on entry - it is substantially rich and concentrated with an exotic streak in the middle. There are focused and intense flavors of current, rhubarb and elements of other black fruits. It is reminiscent of a chateauneuf-du-pape.
