Description
The ocean has always been an obsession for Marblehead artist Martha Quigley who began sailing at age eight and racing sailboats at nine. One-design racing scenes are among her favorite subjects because she loves the repetitive shapes of the sailboats and the opportunity these compositions provide for the exploration of light and color. Repetition of shape is a consistent theme in her work.
The 2009 HNS Regatta signature artwork, Rounding, is a finely detailed 24" x 30" framed oil painting that depicts a fleet of J105 class boats in full sail, similar to the actual HNS Regatta, dropping their spinnakers as they round the mark.
