Description

A DVD of the staged reading of Trapped, a play written by local Vermont playwright David Budbill and commissioned by the Rokeby Museum.

Trapped is a short drama that tells the story of Jesse, a fugitive slave who was sheltered at Rokeby in the 1830s. Jesse escaped from North Carolina and, somehow, made his way to northwestern Vermont. There, he lived and worked on the Robinson's farm for more than a year, saving his earnings for a special purpose: he intended to buy a manumission paper and make his freedom legal.
