Description

A flintknapped knife made by Paul Fourhorns Tenoso, Hunkpapa Lakota, Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe.  A Jemez Mountains obgidian stone blade, cholla cactus handle, yellow ochre hide, with a horse hair tassle given to Tenoso by a medicine man.

Paul Fourhorns Tenoso is a Hunkpapa Lakota enrolled member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe of South Dakota and fifth generation grandnephew of Chief Sitting Bull.

He has flintknapped for more than 20 years using traditional methods and tools such as deer antler, stone abraders, and hammerstones to producer museum quality replicas.  He is a recognized flintknapper in the Rio Grande Valley where he is often commissioned to make stone arrow points by numerous Pueblo tribes for traditional healings.

Paul flintknaps for cultural and artistic fulfillment bringing out the beauty inherent in natural stone to create one of a kind pieces used for jewelry, knives, arrows, spears, and war clubs.  He gathers stone locally from the desert and also uses glass found on reservations and local surface collecting.

Paul's work evokes the not so distant past history of all peoples and is a reminder of our common heritage and shared destiny.
