Patricia Barton is a painter of international reputation, who had never painted until the age of 36.  Patricia Barton was born in Los Angeles. In 1953, shortly after studying at the University of California, she moved to Paris where she lived for 10 years with her American husband. They then moved to the country west of Paris. There she was deeply moved by the natural beauty of the area and in 1964, without any art training whatsoever, she painted her first picture, in gouache, “A Country Garden."

Since her first painting of “A Country Garden”, she has been through three distinct periods and has changed from the medium of gouache to acrylic. Her present pictures show imaginary portraits of people meticulously dressed in the style of the nineteenth century. As she is constantly striving for a new and different expression, she is experimenting with abstract painting.
