Description

This is a must see!  Our very talented lunch kids and kindergarteners helped to create this twin-sized quilt perfect to display on the wall or to use to cuddle up with.

Cari and Paul Bartruff designed and sewed the quilt.  The back fabric has boys, girls, globes and the phrase: Friends all around the world hold hands and share their hearts.

Mrs. Peebles worked with each class so that each lunch kid and kindergartner could create a very special piece of MONART for this very special quilt!

Mrs. Peebles chose Eric Carle's book "Slowly, Slowly, Slowly Said the Sloth" for the animal selection for the quilt (see Eric Carle's message below).  Next, Mrs. Peebles gave a MONART lesson to each class during which each student created their animal completely on their own!  It may be hard to believe, but these are the student's drawings and coloring using this technique.  You'll see bats, frogs, butterflies, birds, and turtles.  Each class chose their own animal.

A note about MONART:  MONART is more than a method that teaches people how to draw. Leading educators recognize MONART as a teaching system that helps students to focus and concentrate, make decisions, solve problems, sequence and develop hand-eye coordination. In a peaceful environment students learn that drawing is a teachable subject in which anyone can be successful.

Special Instructions

Why are we always in a hurry?  Rush. Rush. Rush.  We scurry from here and there.  We play computer games and then-quick! click! – we watch TV.  We eat fast food.  Everyone tells us to make it snappy!  Hurry up! Time is flying! Step on it! There’s so little time just to be with friends to watch a sunset or gaze at a star-filled sky.  Ah, what we could learn- even if just a little- from the gently sloth who slowly, slowly, slowly crawls along a branch of a tree, eats a little, sleeps a lot, and lives in peace.  Eric Carle
