The Book Works was established in 1976 by its founding owner, Milane Christiansen. An independent bookstore, The Book Works specializes in new books with a focus on literary fiction, nonfiction, science, memoir, art architecture, cookbooks and gardening, children's books, and foreign and domestic magazines. It carries an eclectic selection of fine stationery, cards, journals, gift items, vintage pottery (Bauer), and garden statuary. In 2006, Lisa Stefanacci purchased The Book Works, and the tradition continues.
