Roadhouse Relics are brand new custom works of art, handcrafted in Austin, Texas by pop artist Todd Sanders. Visit http://www.roadhouserelics.com/index.html for vintage style neon, a canvas carnival banner, a fine art giclee print or even a tee shirt.
Todd Sanders is a self-proclaimed urban archaeologist. In fact, he is an artist and designer whose specialty is 20th-century popular culture.
Todd gets his inspiration during drives through the country, finding and photographing some of the few remaining relics from a time when signs were all original and made by hand. He has perfected his craft by studying the original techniques used by the sign masters of the 1930's and 1940's
"For the past 15 years, I have dedicated my life to creating glowing tributes to mid-century American pop culture, especially vintage-style neon signs. I have studied every aspect of them, even down to authentic-looking weathering techniques that make each sign appear to be 50 years old!
While many of my art pieces are used for restaurant décor and movie props, I'm very proud that most are purchased by individuals who use them to decorate their homes.
Recently I've also become the vintage signmaker to the stars, creating works of art for such celebrities as Norah Jones, Russell Crowe, ZZTop and Johnny Depp, among others.
I have created these items to have a very hand-crafted feel to them using durable modern materials. I then employ weathering techniques that I have perfected while creating movie props for many motion pictures throughout Texas.
While my images are a tribute to a time that passed more than 50 years ago, there is something fresh and timeless about them. They have the look and feel of another era, but they are actually the finest work of this time. You can be sure of that."
