Description

Submitted for your consideration is a discontinued figurine of the great storyteller Hans Christian Andersen from Bing and Grondahl. This famous Danish manufactory produced coveted figures from 1853 until 1983 when they were taken over by the equally prestigious Royal Copenhagen Company. Many of Bing and Grondahl’s collectible items can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Hans Christian Andersen was a Danish author and poet, most famous for his fairy tales. Among his best-known stories are "The Steadfast Tin Soldier", "The Snow Queen", "The Little Mermaid", "Thumbelina", "The Little Match Girl", "The Ugly Duckling" and "The Red Shoes". During Andersen's lifetime he was feted by royalty and acclaimed for having brought joy to children across Europe. His fairy tales have been translated into over 150 languages and continue to be published in millions of copies all over the world and inspired many other works. Please note how this figurine has captured the very essence of this wonderful author. Here he sits, an open book on his lap, no doubt turned to one of his many famous fairytales, and as he reads his tale, his young girl audience is entranced by his descriptions. Andersen is dressed in formal attire, a dark grey suit, white shirt, black overcoat and bowtie. His young charge is wearing a royal blue frock. This is a large piece measuring 8.75” in height and it is in excellent condition. This item retails for $1395.00
