A vow is a promise made to God.  Though the practice of vow-making was common in biblical times and throughout church history until the Reformation, most modern Christians are totally unfamiliar with the concept.  Ed Gungor writes, "I feel like vow-making is a misplaced gem.  Except in the lives of a relative few, it has been hidden - tucked away for many years.  Christ-lovers do not need this gem in order to enjoy and love Jesus, but I believe its discovery will delight the heart of all of us.  Before I discovered it, I was not lost, but I am richer for the find.  I think you will be too."  The act of making a vow to God is a way of showing generosity to Him, of demonstrating our love for God.  Vows are evidence in the church of a desire to follow Jesus without reservation.  They are choices that transcend ordinary faith - decisions that give direction to one's entire life.
