Description

The owners  sometimes refer to this 5000 sq ft home as their "Heidi House", as it was built in a Swiss Chalet style - at least from the outside. The interior is classic Colorado, with a mix of "Victorian Cowboy" and bunk-house furnishings. The thing that ties it all together is an emphasis on casual, elegant comfort. If you stay in this house, you'll find yourself spending much of your time on the main level in the large family and dining room, with an attached kitchen. With an enormous, thick Persian rug, over-sized chairs and couches, a fireplace and an end-to-end wall built of river rocks, it's a natural gathering place. Also, the end-to-end windows provide stunning views of the ski area to the left and 30-mile views up the Yampa Valley to the right. The house itself sits just below the top of a ridge that overlooks the valley, and is a short 5-minute drive to the base of the ski area, or a 10-15 minute drive to downtown Steamboat Springs.

There are two Master suites on the main level, both with their own bathroom and large closets, and three bedrooms on the upper level, two of which share a bathroom and one of which has its own. One of the upper level bedrooms is the "bunk room", where six children can sleep on bunk beds and two trundle beds. All rooms but one have mountain views and balcony access.

The second level is also home to another family room, with television, DVD, Nintendo, board games, books and couches. This is also the walk-out level to the back patio and hot tub.
I should mention there is also a separate caretaker apartment with its own entrance on the bottom level, which is also where the garages are. Our caretaker, Courtney, has been with us for years and is a great and delightful help if you need directions, dining advice, etc. She's also the local skating instructor, so you can work on your hockey stops if need be!
