Ice Wheel on the Upper Winooski River

Item Number: 203
Time Left: CLOSED
Description
This ice wheel began at an elbow in the Upper Winooski River as a mass of ice slush that turned slowly. More chunks of ice flowed down stream and adhered to the wheel that began to take circular shape. Each day the wheel grew, occasionally bumping into the ice frozen on the shore - smoothing the shape of the wheel and giving off a groaning sound. As winter approached, the wheel became so large that it could no longer turn and it froze into the shore ice. This framed image, taken by Gary Miller, is 8" x 12". ©Gary Miller.
