Description
In this 900th year, celebrating Saint Anselm of Canterbury's impact upon our world, share in the life and vocation of Benedictine monks through the centuries by joining the monks of St. Anselm's Abbey for Vespers at 6:00 p.m. and sharing a formal meal in the monastic refectory. You will experience Saint Benedict's 1500-year old custom of the reading from the Holy Rule while the monks eat in silence, listening to a reading from a book that has been assigned for their edification. The monks can accommodate six people on a feast day of mutual convenience. After the formal meal in the refectory you will be invited to join the monks in their calefactory for dessert and conversation.
"For the office of Vespers the number of psalms should be limited to four with their antiphons. After the psalms a lesson is repeated, then a responsory, a versicle, the Magnificat, litany, the Lord's Prayer, and the the Hour is concluded." Chapter 17
"During meals, there should be complete silence disturbed by no whispering, nor should anyone's voice be heard but the reader's." Chapter 37
