Description
Two authentic hand carved Sankofa masks made by Frank Osei from Ghana in West Africa. Hand carved from Sese wood (teak) these two masks serve as symbols for the cultural expression "Sankofa." Visually and symbolically "Sankofa" is expressed as a mythic bird that flies forward while looking backward with an egg (symbolizing the future) in its mouth. More recently, the Sankofa symbol has alluded to a historic past or heritage that is uniquely African and is remembered with an eye toward building the future.
