About The Black Belt Academy and Master Randall
Matt Randall's Black Belt Academy, Inc. was established in 1987 in Dover after a few years of being a small program taught in the multi-purpose room of Oyster River Elementary School. It was clear that as our small program grew, we would need a larger more permanent home. Since then, we have grown to be the largest martial arts facility in the Seacoast area.
Master Randall is currently a 6th Dan (degree) Senior Master Instructor training towards his 7th Dan. He has been training consistently since 1981. Outside of the martial arts, he has a BA in Political Science and Justice Studies from UNH and sits on the boards of local charitable organizations which focus on children’s educational projects.
Master Randall has been a member and captain of the United States TaeKwonDo Team to the World Championships three times competing in Montreal, The Soviet Union, and Korea. In the Soviet Union, he was captain of the US team and earned a Bronze medal. In Korea, he won a Gold medal for power breaking. Since then, he has retired from world competition to spend more time with his family.
He has been published in many major periodicals, including TaeKwonDo Times magazine. Master Randall has also been featured on television twice, once for an attempt of the world board-breaking record on Passages, WGOT TV, Manchester, NH where he broke 232 boards in 60 seconds (missing the world record by just 12 boards), and once on PM Magazine, Hartford, CT where his teaching skills were filmed for a story on the benefits of martial arts training.
Recently, Master Randall has stared in a local motion picture called “The Present”. What started as short-term position developing fight scene choreography became a leading role as the ‘bad guy’. “I had a fantastic chance to work with some excellent actors in a movie that is thought-provoking and well-written. It was a terrific experience and loads of fun,” says Randall. “Thank you to Peter Schanelaris and Bill Bourdon for the opportunity to stretch my imagination and challenge my skills.”
