The village of Volnay, one of our favorite appellations, brings us another tie between two terrific wines from Henri Boillot. You make the choice as were equally enthralled with both. Both capture classic vectors to 2005 fruit while providing that distinctive velvety mouth feel and “goute de terroir” that verily defines great Volnay. Boillot’s “Fremiets” (Burghound 93) is a terroir deluxe that Allen Meadows describes as possessing “…detailed and mineral-infused flavors that retain a lovely sense of purity and refinement on the balanced, long and penetrating finish. This is an exercise in harmony and transparency and, in a word, terrific!” The “Caillerets” (Burghound 93) is an equally exciting wine! Allen calls it, “A striking wine of power and harmony with rich, full and sweet flavors that coat the palate.”
