In Shell's own words:  The Well-Guarded Box

This sculpture was born out of the alchemy of a particular day when I wished I could put all my negative thoughts in a box and just heal them.  In the ceramic studio, I began making a box... and then randomly a Goddess... and oddly finished up with a little clay heart in my hands.  I remember reading that the heart shape was an ancient symbol for woman, and I felt myself as a woman and as a heart.  I thought of the Goddess holding the heart, holding me, holding all women safe in this motherly, tenderly attentive way, holding us all to her breast.  I placed the Goddess on top of the box to heal the negative thoughts that hurt women and to keep safe our precious spirits.  It is a well of Unconditional Love.
