Highlights include Eliza Gilkyson, Austin-based (but formerly of Taos, NM) politically-minded, poetically-gifted singer-songwriter with special guest Ellis Paul; The Pine Leaf Boys, Louisiana cajun band, two-time Grammy nominees; The Wiyos, vaudevillian Ragtime Blues, Hillbilly Swing and Old Time Country; Enter the Haggis, high-energy fusion of celtic, rock, folk and world, from Toronto; Robert Mirabal, Native-American flute, stories and original songs; Esperanza Spalding, the youthful prodigy who is reviving classic jazz with her amazing bass playing, original compositions, engaging voice and stage presence, and much more.
All of New Mexico Tech's Performing Arts Series shows are on Friday evenings, with social hours prior to the show, where for just $5.00, you get scrumptious appetizers and cash bar. Plan to spend the night and visit the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, the Very Large Array, El Camino Real National Heritage Center, take the historic Socorro tour, visit a riverine park, mountain climb in Box Canyon, hike and camp in Water Canyon, or go for a mountain bike ride down the Quebradas Backcountry Byway. They have fantastic restaurants, most notably Socorro Springs Brewing Company, with award winning beers, or Stage Door Grill, with live music Thursday thru Friday, and several wonderful bed and breakfasts and motels.
