Description

The highest bidder will receive the books Descending The Dragon: My Journey Down the Coast of Vietnam from National Geographic Books and Wildebeest in a Rainstorm: Profiles of Our Most Intriguing Adventurers, Conservationists, Shagbags, and Wanderers (Menasha Ridge Press).

Accomplished adventurer and author Jon Bowermaster discovers a new Vietnam from the sea and guides an intimate tour of this intriguing country, one of today’s most-talked-about destinations.  More than a travelogue, the book is a personal tale that goes deep into the heart of this sea-loving nation and discovers its hopeful spirit and unique culture.

Driven by his intense curiosity about post-1975 Vietnam and eager to replace the old war images burned in his mind with new ones of today, Bowermaster overcame daunting bureaucratic obstacles and pushed ahead with his expedition. His team included veteran travel photographer Rob Howard, who skillfully captures the Vietnamese people in their daily lives, artfully documenting their wistful expressions as well as the beauty of the country’s serene landscape.

For more than 20 years, Jon Bowermaster accompanied and profiled many of the world's most intriguing and often eccentric environmentalists and explorers.  In Wildebeest in a Rainstorm, he has collected these fascinating pieces, which originally ran in such prominent publications as National Geographic Adventure and Outside to provide a one-of-a-kind look at their attempts to affect environmental policy, further global exploration, and heal the world.
