This 11" x 9" fused glass suncatcher is the work of Cindi Allen. It's cast in a mold of her own design and construction, using crushed glass called frit. The depth of color is achieved through layering frit and multiple kiln-firings.

When the piece is removed from the mold the edges are ground smooth using three different size grinding wheels to get into all the curves and tight spaces.  This process is done twice with a kiln firing after each to ensure the glass is smooth and shiny and the shape is perfect. 

This suncatcher hangs from a thin steel chain and 20 gauge fine sliver wire findings.
