Quincy Jones is the epitome of the multi-talented musician. He’s worn the hats of composer, performer, arranger, conductor, and producer. And he’s worn them all well -- to the tune of 26 Grammy® Awards and a handful of gold and platinum records.

Born in Chicago in 1933 and raised in Seattle (where Ray Charles was an early mentor), Jones got his start playing trumpet with Lionel Hampton from 1950-53. He then began producing for other artists in the mid-’50s. During the ’60s he led his own big band, headed the A&R staff at Mercury Records, produced Frank Sinatra and Count Basie, and still found the time to score dozens of movies and TV shows. In 1974, "Q" (as he came to be known) picked up his first gold album as a solo artist, for Body Heat. He scored the Roots TV series in 1977, landing another gold album, and grabbed platinum for his next two releases, Sounds... And Stuff Like That! and The Dude.

Then came the production work heard ’round the world — the hit musical The Wiz and Michael Jackson’s three biggest albums, Off The Wall, Thriller, and Bad — as well as the founding of his own Quest Records. The ’80s continued to find Quincy in a heap of successes. He earned three Oscar® nominations for The Color Purple, produced the superstar "We Are The World" session, and made his own platinum album, Back On The Block. He released the star-studded Q’s Jook Joint in 1995 and continues to be a crucial force in popular music.
