Description
This piece was one of four done by artist Larry D. Butcher in the summer of 2005. Pencil and acrylic paint on Arches Paper. This beautiful framed art hung in the Governor's Mansion for one year! Measures 25"h x 16"w.
Artist Statement: I had red images in mind that included gestural pencil drawing in wet paint. The goal of this work was to produce a drawing in the fresh red paint while the medium was still wet enough to take the drawing marks - a piece that truly captured the moment. The image came from a dream in which I saw criss-crossing gestures on red ground. The marks I made relate to branches, furrows and the evidence of the wind crossing the earth. The aesthetic of this piece was the start of my series, "RED EARTH & ZEN BONES", with the black pencil gestures of the drawings in red paint becoming the tar marks of the later work.
