John Knight grew up in Indiana and attended Indiana University, receiving a B.F.A. in painting in 1994.  He received an M.F.A. in painting from American University in 1998 and has lived in Portland, Maine for the past 11 years.  He has done artist residencies at the Vermont Studio Center, the Millay Colony in Austerlitz, New York, the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Massachusetts, the Carina House residency on Monhegan Island, and Acadia National Park.  His work has been in the Portland Museum of Art Biennial (2003), and the Maine State House.  He was the Maine Arts Commission Visual Arts Fellow for 2007.  He recently had a solo show at the Caldbeck Gallery in Rockland, Maine.
