Description

Acclaimed photographer Jenny Okun’s artwork consists of large-scale color photographic abstractions of architecture. Rather than produce literal representations of buildings, Okun distills the essential qualities of form, texture, color and detail.  The artist methodically photographs buildings by winding the film through the camera in small increments, thus producing one long negative of overlapping, multiple-exposed images.  Often these works are orchestrated into triptychs of complex interconnecting themes and variations. Okun has been commissioned by the Tate Modern, the Getty and the Whitney Museum to produce images for use in their posters and museum catalogues.  This image is the Walt Disney Concert Hall (Architect, Frank Gehry) 2003, archival pigment print, 30x40” edition of 10, signed, framed.

"Looking at architecture," Okun has written, "is like listening to music. Both are dramatic forms that reveal multiple, repeating themes. Above all, both need time. Just as a symphony cannot be experienced in a few seconds, it is impossible to see a whole building, all at once."

This is a Live Event Item.
