SONG FOR MY FATHER, dedicated to Horaces' father, John Tavares Silver, combines Jazz and a bossa nova influence with the folk melodies of his father's birthplace, the Cape Verde Islands. It remains his most famous composition.

Pianist-composer Horace Silver was a co-founder, with Art Blakey, of the Jazz Messengers, and has led his own small groups since 1954. As a composer, he has contribed more classic compositions to the jazz repertory than any other living musician.
