Two-part, six-drawer memory box. The black-lacquer box is hinged to open into two cubes, each with three stacked drawers. The over-all dimensions of the memory box are 3.75" X 3.75" X 7.5".

The piece is decorated on its two leading sides by a mother-of-pearl inlay river scene and is secured by a butterfly clasp. The back face of the box bears a seal from the 'National Defense University.'
