Description

20" X 20" Oil on gallery wrapped canvas

This landscape was painted on location at Smith Island, MD. True to its title, the piece’s predominantly cool color scheme alludes to light viewed at daybreak. Watjen additionally achieves the illusion of depth in the tremendous lake that dominates the picture plane; In doing this, she utilizes a spectrum of blue shades, from the pale reflections of clouds to the dark navy hint of deeper waters. With a curving composition and a playful broad brushstroke, she creates an energetic depiction of sunrise.

Lauren Watjen attended Virginia State University, School of the Arts, where she was later a guest teacher.  Lauren is a glass artist and a painter.  She is a member of the Pawtucket Arts Collaborative, Brennabuarts, Women’s Art Network and Saatchi Gallery On-line.  Lauren has exhibited extensively in the United Sates and she has been commissioned to crate numerous glass pieces for a variety of public and private collections.
