Description

12" X 24 X 1.5" " Acrylic on  gallery wrapped canvas

In “Ipswich #19,” Cerese presents a modern twist on the classical landscape, with a strong use of color and the presence of materials. The artist employs a warm color palette, with orange as dominant color and supporting reds and browns. With such a precise color scheme, the viewer may more easily focus on contrasting shapes, such as the deep brown mass of trees to the right versus the yellow orange field in the foreground. Although traces of landscape are evident, the artist executes them with strong textures and exaggerated color scheme for added innovation.

Irma Cerese is a painter of contemporary acrylic landscapes which focus on color relationships. Educated at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, she worked in New York City for many years and then resumed painting in Massachusetts after a fifteen year hiatus. Since that time her award --winning work has been included in numerous juried, invitational, group and solo exhibitions and in private, corporate and institutional collections. She is currently represented by several galleries in Maine and Massachusetts.
